About Kanha National Park
The Land of the Tiger and Tribal Heritage
Nestled in the heart of Madhya Pradesh, Kanha National Park is one of India’s most celebrated wildlife reserves and a jewel of central India’s forests. Spread across an area of over 940 sq. km, it is part of the larger Kanha Tiger Reserve, covering nearly 2,000 sq. km of pristine wilderness. Known for its rich biodiversity, breathtaking landscapes, and thriving tiger population, Kanha offers visitors a rare chance to experience the wild in its most natural form.
A Wildlife Paradise
Kanha is home to the majestic Royal Bengal Tiger, making it one of the most important tiger habitats in the world. Apart from tigers, the park shelters a wide variety of species including leopards, wild dogs, sloth bears, gaur (Indian bison), barasingha (swamp deer), spotted deer, sambhar, and over 300 species of birds.
The barasingha, also known as the “jewel of Kanha,” is a conservation success story here, having been saved from near extinction through dedicated efforts.
